Erin’s Birthday Surprise
That day was a very
special day for Erin. It was her birthday! She was so excitedbecause she was certain that her family and friends remember her birthday. She wondered what presents she was going to get. But
she would make sure of it.
Erin quickly dressed up and went down to the kitchen
where her mother was preparing breakfast for the family. She looked at the
table and she saw boxes of cereal and milk, the usual breakfast the family had.
"Hey mom!” said Erin, “Do you know what day is today?”
Her mother stoped washing the dishes and turned to
her. She answered, “Well, the last time I check, today is Saturday.” Then mother continued to wash the dishes.
Erin was stunned. How come
mother didn’t remember that today it’s my birthday, she thought to herself. She then ate her breakfast in silence. And where are father and Gina?
Aren't they going to give me a birthday wish?
After having her breakfast, Erin went back to her
room. She felt sad
because no one seemed to remember her birthday. Mother didn't say a word either
for she kept busy doing her housechore. She didn’t know that her family actually did not forget about her birthday. They were planning to make a surprise party for Erin.
Up in Erin sister's, Gina, mother, father and Gina
were preparing Erin's birthday party.
"So, how is the preparation going?" mother
asked Gina. "Erin looked sad because none of us gave her wishes." “We have to make a great surprise party to make it up.”
“Have you invited all her classmates?” asked father.
Gina nodded.
"They will come at 3 o'clock as I told them. They all are anxious to come.
They love Erin that they will not miss her party." Gina turned to father.
"Have you called grandma and grandpa? Uncle Joe and
aunt Hailey and their
kids? "asked Gina.
"Yes, I have called them, and they confirmed they
would come. In fact, Uncle Joe is going to buy a pinata. I think Erin will love
that," answered father.
“I need to decorate the house," said mother. "Who is going to take
Erin out of the house until everything is ready and everyone comes?"
Father looked at Gina. "It must be you, Gina,
because I must get the birthday cake from the bakery." Gina agreed. She
would ask Erin to accompany her to the library. Erin always loved to go to the
library.
Gina then went to Erin's room. Erin was reading books.
She was upset that no one remembered her birthday. She expected that at least
they gave her birthday wishes.
"Erin, I need to return some books to the
library. Would you like to come?" Erin agreed. She was too upset to stay
home. If no one was care, she would rather spend her birthday by reading
books... a lot of books.
It was almost 3 o'clock. Everyone was ready at Erin’s
house. There were Gina
and Erin' grandparents, Uncle Joe and aunt Hailey and their three children, and
Erin' classmates. The whole room was decorated,
and the cake was ready on the table. The pinata was hanging in the terrace. They were waiting to surprise Erin.
Father peeked at the window. He saw Erin and Gina were
approaching the house. "They are almost here," he told everyone in
the room. "Get ready and be silence. We surprise Erin when she opens the
door."
After opening the gate, Gina stopped Erin.
"Ouch!” shouted Gina.
"What's wrong, Gina?"asked Erin. Gina
pretended to winch.
"I think there is something inside my shoe. It
hurts the sole. Could you please open the door?"
Without hesitation, Erin ran to the door.
She was still looking at Gina when she openned the door. Suddenly she heard
people shouted,
“SURPRISE!!!!”
Erin jumped. She held on the
door handle. Her heart pounded hard. She looked inside the house. Everyone she
knew was there. There were her classmates: Nikki, Bailey, Cheryl, Merrick, even
the snobbish Alice. They all were smiling at
her. Then there were her cousins, uncle Joe, aunt Hailey, grandmother and
grandfather. THEY REMEMBER HER BIRTHDAY!!!
“Oh my goodness. Are you all here for my birthday?,"
she asked them. "I thought you forgot about my
birthday,” Erin turned to her parents. Her mother was carrying a birthday cake with fourteen
candles on top of it.
“But we do remember, little sister,” said Gina behind her, “we just pretended because we wanted to make a surprise party for you. You never had a
surprise party before, didn't you?."
Erin smiled happily. She went to the table where the cake was. She closed her
eyes and made a wish. She wished for her parents and sister to love her unconditionally. Then she blew the candles. Everybody clapped their
hands and sangHappy Birthday. One by one gave her
kisses on the cheeks. Erin hugged her parents tightly and whispered,
"thank you mom and dad. I love you both very much."
Mom smiled. "We love you too, Erin."
"So, what do you wish for, Erin?” asked Gina.
"I'm not going to tell you, "answered Erin. "It's a secret.
But I wish this party makes everyone happy. And I thank you to make this party. It’s very special birthday.” Erin then hugged her sister.
"You are a wonderful sister."
"You are too, Erin." Gina kissed her.
Then they saw Uncle Joe standing up. "Kids, let's go outside to the terrace. It's time to hit the
pinata. line up.”
"Hurrayy!!," the kids shouted. They made a line and took turn to
hit the pinata. They cheered and laughed when someone had his/her turn and
missed the pinata. It was Erin's turn. Uncle Joe blindfolded her with a
handkerchief. She then walked forward and swung the bat hard.
PRACK!!!
"Erin, you did it!!. You hit the pinata," shouted the others.
"Go, get the candies!" Erin took off the handkerchief and saw her
friends picked up the candies that fell fown from the pinata. She quickly joined
her friends to get the candies.
Mother came out to call them up. "Kids, don't eat the candies now.
We're going to have the cake. You can bring the candies home." They then
ran up inside the house to get the cake. Erin had one too. The cake was
decorated with white and yellow rises, and it was double-layered with caramel
in the middle. It was delicious, and everyone seemed to enjoy it. Erin hoped
mother would save some for tomorrow.
Finally it was time to open the presents. They gathered to see what's inside the presents. Erin was happy. She liked all the presents because they were given as proofs that people
loved her. She was also glad that everyone had a good time at her party. It was a great birthday party ever.
